1. Amazon Basics - Steel Home Security Electronic Safe
Top-Rated: 27,965 ratings
Credit: Amazon.com
Highlight: Heavy-duty steel construction (8-gauge steel door and 14-gauge steel body); 2 live-door bolts and pry-resistant concealed hinges
Helpful review: "Overall I'm happy with the safe for the price.
The size allows me to fit what I was planning to put inside. Next to a sleep number bed the height is just above the frame and it's workable as an additional night stand. The top shelf is easy to reach for items you need to be able to reach from bed.
The electronic lock works well so far and the two mechanical backup keys are sturdy. The walls are single layer steel but certainly of a heavier gauge than sheet metal on any car. The locking bolts are sturdy enough that they're oversized (a good thing) in relation to the rest of the construction. The electronic pad can take 3-8 length keys. The keypad can beep or be silenced and there are not-brighter-than-necessary lights that give visual feedback. The keypad has a lockout feature for some deterrence. There are pre-drilled holes in the back and bottom to allow permanent fixture to the wall/floor.
In purchasing a safe at this price point there should be a lower expectation of security. The bolts on the door lock are sound but with the single wall construction otherwise on the door I believe it would be easy to penetrate the unit above and below the lock with a sledgehammer. The weight was manageable to carry inside by one barely-in shape person, which while convenient also suggests bolting the safe down if you're worried about it ever walking away. The mounting holes as well are larger than they need to be and there isn't a mechanism (other than a carpet for the floor) to seal them with what the safe includes. If keeping someone from learning the nature of the contents by peeping through the mounting holes on the back and bottom is a concern it's something to consider. The back wall is more spot than seam welded but adequate in relation to the door.
My biggest gripe with the unit is the door fitment and specifically how it rubs on the bottom. It takes a good tug on the door at its rest state to pull it open, which makes a distinctive noise as well. If pulling up on door while opening it, there's almost no rub and the noise is nearly inaudible. While acting quickly in the middle of the night it could make more sound than you might prefer (but at this price point there's probably a fair bit of deviation between the units). Another shortcoming was that only three anchor bolts were included when the unit has 4 holes on both the back and floor for mounting, and one of those bolts is so wedged under the bottom door frame that I haven't been able to pry it loose. This may be affecting the door fitment.
In all, the benefits of the size, top shelf position and cost make this a satisfying purchase. Is it fireproof? Briefly frame retardant I'd guess at best. Will it take someone with a sledgehammer more than a minute to be able to fit their hand inside the door? Likely not. But will it be effective in keeping children and not-too-determined house cleaners & home visitors out? For this price that's a great application. Will it stop a projectile? Probably not all of them." — Andrew Z
Trending review: "This is an inexpensive safe and works like one, it is not something you would store your valuables in. It would be easy to pry open but it does prevent a quick grab and run as long as you bolt it down.
It comes with an instruction manual and bolts to secure it to a concrete wall. Four AA batteries are required to use the combination but not included. It does come with 2 keys which you will need to open the safe and set the combination.
It only takes a couple of minutes to set up the safe inserting batteries and setting the combination. To open you press the numbers you set up, press the # sign and turn the knob.
Finding a secure place for it takes some thought. It only weighs about 35 pounds but it is fairly large: 17 inches high by 14 wide and 13 inches deep. Most of us will probably not have concrete walls in our homes or office to secure it. The mounting holes are on 9 inch centers so you will only be able to secure it to one stud but with two large screws unless you want to build up something.
It is not fireproof so things like important papers (passports, birth certificates, etc ) shouldn't be stored in a safe like this.
This it is best for storing things you want to keep out of the hands of little ones like prescription drugs or maybe your hunting knife or other items that they shouldn't have. And it would also stop a grab and run by a thief taking similar type items. Even though they may not be expensive items you store in there it just prevents the hassle of replacing them." — Steve and Amy
Reassuring review: "I have a more expensive fingerprint safe (got it from Amazon, of course), so I was happy to get this one to compare. There are some pluses and some minuses.
- The battery compartment for this safe is on the back of the safe door. Because it is a large plastic bulge it actually substantially impinges on the space inside. If you want to put an 8.5" x 11" object inside the safe, unless it is very thin, you will have to put it in at an angle from front to back to make space for the bulge. (I have the .5 cubic foot safe).
- There is a little shelf inside the shelf that is not quite full depth. Fortunately this is removable (see above).
- My other safe came with an external battery pack that can be temporarily jacked into that safe to provide power to the fingerprint reader, so you can open the safe to change the batteries if the batteries are dead. This safe doesn't have that. If the batteries die, you will have to use the key to open the safe to change them (two keys come with the safe - don't lose those).
- The other safe plays a little tune when it recognizes your fingerprint, and a different tune if it didn't, and this can't be turned off. This safe only beeps, but that beep can be turned off (there will still be a soft "thunk" as the bolts retract). This safe also has red and green indicator lights. All good.
- The other safe has a little screw-on metal plate covering the keyhole, and it's really not obvious that there is a keyhole all all. This safe has a little black plastic chip covering the hole. That chip fell off the first time I opened the safe, and took off for parts unknown.
- Once your fingerprint has been recognized you have to turn and pull the bar handle to open the safe. This is a very smooth plastic, tapered slightly toward the front, and not at all grippy.
- When setting up fingerprint recognition, you only have five seconds between pressing the reset button (on the back of the safe door) and getting your finger into position (on the reader on the front of the door). Not very user friendly, and you pretty much have to press the button with one hand and recognize a fingerprint on the other. This requires some contortions for setting up a left-hand fingerprint.
So, as I said, there are pluses and minuses.
A note about installation - this safe comes with four bolts and anchors. These are the cheapest pieces of crap I've ever seen, and are pretty much designed to fail on installation. There is no flange to keep the anchors from rotating if the hole in the drywall is at all too big. There are no threads in the front part of the anchor, just in the nut at the far end, so good luck getting the bolt to mesh. (And it's worse if you follow the install instructions, which neglect to mention that you need to insert the anchor assembly with the bolt already in place, TIGHTEN THE BOLT to set the nut at the end of the anchor, and then remove the bolt so you can move the safe into position and reinsert the bolt). I now have three random knobs of metal embedded in the insulation inside my wall. (See picture for the full assembly). Just get Snap Toggles. You can re-use the same washers." — ring0
2. SentrySafe - Fireproof and Waterproof Steel Home Safe
Top-Rated: 5,502 ratings
Credit: Amazon.com
Highlight: Fireproof safe is UL Classified to endure 1 hour at 1700°F and keep interior temperatures safe for irreplaceable documents, valuables, DVDs, and USBs; ETL Verified to withstand a 15 foot fall during a fire and remain closed
Helpful review: "I was thrilled to see my safe delivered in my garage when it arrived. The first thing I noticed was how hard it was going to be to move the safe where I wanted it to be placed; it needed two people and one of those fork lift things that the ups workers use (dont laugh, im not savvy.)
After getting it to its destination I opened it up (upside down, but thats my fault) and the vault was already unlocked, but it a closed manner, and had all of the paperwork (lifetime warranty, readme, license, etc) in the box but outside of the safe. The code for the safe comes on a sticker on the back of the readme booklet and it CANNOT BE CHANGED.(The company states that this can be a benefit to the user if you choose to register your safe with the company; they can retrieve your code) It also comes with two keys, the keys do not override the combination lock, only adds another layer of security (which I enjoy).
Also, I would like to take some time to explain a CON that most people would complain about that I'd like to bring to justice a little bit.. The hinge for the safe is on the outside of the container as you can see on the picture, however the hinge is very solid and bolted together on both ends, it would take a mass amount of force to break the seal off of the hinges also. But lets say that an intruder DOES break the hinge off; the way the indentions inside of the safe are made, you will not be able to pull the lid off of the same without being able to close the metal bars of the door, which will not happen without the key or code (or both) if it is locked.
Safe was also made possible to bolt into the floor and it comes with the bolts and nuts to do it, but I find it unnecessary.. it will be hard enough getting it out the door.. I suggest putting the safe under a desk, shelf, or under some items that can add to the complexion of removing your safe. (Adding 30 pounds of items into your safe will already change the weight to over 120 lbs)
PROS: Heavy, very secure, change-able shelf racks, dual security feature, keyring hangers, waterproof, fireproof, worth the price, comes with one absorbent pouch which will last for a while.
CONS: Cheap inner shelf (Not for things over 15-20 pounds), password cannot be changed*, may sit unevenly**
*The company (Sentry Safe) states that the code cannot be changed and it for YOUR security, just in case you lost your password they can send you your code or key again.. if your like me your questioned reasoning and security behind this, but hear me out.. In order for you to get another copy of your code/keys you have to fill out a form that they send you (originally, with the safe) and you have to fill it out entirely, giving your first/last name, address, and all the usual stuff, and also your unique ID number for your safe.. Well that happens to be located inside your safe and on the sticker with your password on it, so if you wish, you could keep it a secret or even destroy the ID number so not even the company who designed the safe will be able to tell what code/key you need. Hope that clarifies questions.
**I also believe I have an uneven floor, but I've read another guy's review stating the same thing.. I just slipped the package of screws they gave me under the corner.
VERDICT: I love my safe, Im sure they're are better and more secure beasts, but for the money you CANT beat it, it gets the job done.
Hope I've helped,
Cheers!" — Eli
Trending review: "If you live in an upper class neighborhood, the kind of thief that would be casing your home is a pro. He's going to know when you're gone for an extended period, then break into your home after avoiding your security system. Once inside, he is likely to find your safe, and if it's not an expensive 700lb gun safe with an sophisticated locking system, your valuables will be gone. But let's be honest, most regular folk won't invest in such a safe, because they either don't have the money, or the valuables they want to secure would not justify the cost.
While this safe would not be the best investment to deter a professional burglar in a expensive neighborhood, it will do just fine in most middle class neighborhoods, where less sophisticated, garden variety thieves do their dirty work during the day, and want to get in and out of a home within 10 minutes. Very few can crack a safe combo, and this safe has a secondary key lock if they do. Most won't be carrying the tools to break into it either, and will not want to spend the time trying to saw through any part of the safe, which will also attract unwanted attention. What a thief might try to do is carry the safe out of the home. One would think that would be taking quite a chance with the possibility of neighbors watching, but if you have a dolly in your garage and a blanket, some thieves might take that chance. Keep in mind, if a thief only plans to be in your home for a few minutes, and is feeling bold, he might just park in your driveway. A strong guy could easily pick up this 100lb safe, walk out of your home and throw it in his back seat. Of course, you could bolt the safe to the floor and into the cement slab of your home, which I would highly recommend. It's not a difficult task using masonry anchor bolts and an impact drill. You can rent the drill at Home Depot and buy the bolts there as well. That's what I did, as this safe allows for you to drill and attach it to either a wall of the floor. My safe is going nowhere, unless the thief really knows what he's doing. Not sure if two guys with a long crow bar could get enough leverage to break it from the floor.
This safe has a decent amount of room (enough for some cash, jewelry, documents, etc.), and a cheap, but reliable locking mechanism (it's only a $200 safe). Just make sure the handle is fully in the up position, before turning the dial, or it won't turn properly. The only negative I have is the plastic handle. Really? I get it's an inexpensive safe, but come on." — Amazon Customer
Reassuring review: "I have owned an older Sentry fire safe of about the same specs for over 6 years now.
Over the years, I have enjoyed the peace of mind that comes from not having to worry about the safety of valuable documents - and my Sentry has become a key part of my home security strategy.
Nevertheless, I was not enamored by my current safe's electronic lock, which was often finicky, and required a very specific technique to open.
So how does this new safe stack up?
Consider the following performance dimensions, which are often used to evaluate a fire safe:
1] Capacity and weight:
Not only is this safe's capacity fairly generous at 2.0 cu ft, but its weight also acts as additional security as it requires significant strength to move.
2] Maximum internal temperature rating
This safe's UL Classified protection of 350F is sufficient for paper, modern media (CD, DVD, memory sticks, USB drives), and even jewelry (but NOT pearls). However, photographs and negatives need a hardier safe - one that is rated for 150 or even 125 degrees F.
3] Protection Duration
This safe protects its contents for up to 1 hour - which is likely to be sufficient if the fire is small and there are no flammable materials stored nearby; or if it is used in an area where firefighters are likely to respond quickly.
4] Impact Resistance
Large fire safes should ideally be placed on the ground floor where they are unlikely to fall when the floor collapses (and hurt firemen working to save your home). That said, this safe is rated for about a 2-story drop.
5] Burglary protection
This safe only has a 6-digit manual combination lock, and lacks a key. I prefer the manual lock (from personal experience, electronic locks are not worth the trouble), but do miss not having a key (though it ends up being one more thing to protect.) For additional protection, the safe can be bolted to the floor. However, this is a risk in itself, as it breaks the safe's water protection, and some safes from Sentry need turning on the side to open (google it).
Other notes:
#######
1] The fire-proof compounds in the safe's insulation tend to emit a significant amount of moisture, requiring the presence of a dessicant in the safe. My choice for my older Sentry has been the Hydrosorbent 900 Gram Silica Gel for 66 Cubic SG-900). Every few months, I need to recharge it in the oven, and it has been going great for many years now.
2] when a fire safe is doing its protecting, its material actively produces moisture which can damage documents. Therefore, consider placing documents in an air-tight dishwasher/microwave-safe container.
3] The safe came very well packaged in a solid cardboard container. It needs two people to manipulate - so plan accordingly.
Conclusion:
##########
While the ultimate fire protection might be a UL 125F / 3-hour rated safe, this safe is at my security sweet spot - roomy, heavy, 350F/1hour protection, and with a traditional manual lock (no batteries to worry about).
While I was tempted to rate this at 5-stars, I chose to withhold one 1 star until I can confirm that it works as advertised over a longer period than my immediate encounter would allow.

Trending review: "Perfect size for your home safe in your closet at 2.0 cubic feet this digital fireproof security safe box with fireproof waterproof money bag is great for securing your valuables. The lockbox safe also has an inner cabinet great for stashing Mom and Dad’s stuff and still having access to the safe by other family members.
The led light makes it nice, and this is a great home safe for money jewelry documents as it is fireproof & waterproof, more importantly, sticky fingers proof. Recently we had an apple watch taken from us sitting on a dresser by a child’s sticky fingers if you know what I mean.
So secure your valuable in a quality built safe that is super affordable and so important for every home. The safe box is made from solid cold-rolled sheet metal, which is excellent for anti-collision, anti-drilling, and has a high-temperature resistance.
Lastly, with the steel structure & large capacity, the safe comes with thickened 28 mm quadruple lock cores making the safe box to reliable. So go ahead and make your jewelry, photos passport, and important stuff well “safe’ and easily accessible with the LCD screen & double warning system. Once the battery is installed, the screen displays "time, week and date". when the battery is low, the screen will display "lo-battery" to remind you to replace the battery. Perfect for anyone’s home." — SmithHaus
Reassuring review: "This is a pretty great safe. This thing is absolutely secure. I locked it and then attempted to pry it open. This thing would not budge. It as like Fort Knox. Impenetrable. I feel confident that my valuables, money, and firearms are safely secured away.
Its pretty heavy. A person would have to be mighty strong to pick this up and take somewhere. The immobility of this are makes it even more desirable.
It a programmable combination pick which as tricky to understand the to the confusing instructions. Once I played with it this a few minutes I figured it out.
Its also fireproof. This is a huge relief for more because I can rest assured that my belongings are protected and sound in the event of an emergency.
I'm not a huge fan of the gold interior, but my husband really likes it. The days it makes him feel like Scrooge McDuck. It does have the interior look of eighties richness, and as long as the through look happy." — TLM

Helpful review: "If you think it through, people who are out to steal from you in the middle of the night only have so much time. This is not a Brinks truck however - it held. They hammered the outside -- pulled the keypad - tried their best to rip it open but to no avail. Naturally I'm thrilled to death that my stuff is still my stuff. I'd recommend you put one of those little trackers inside because if they took this with them - I'd be SOL as I had no tracker. However - even though this was not a common case (and I won't go into detail) I was able to recover the safe and everything inside.. still my stuff.. it was was kept safe - hence the name I guess. In hindsight I would get a little tracker - and I haven't researched it yet - but somehow find a way to glue that tracker inside so it's not noticeable. Whoever is stealing your stuff is not going to be able to crack this open on the spot so would naturally take it with them - and if they do, they'd be nailed if you have a tracker inside it. So I'm very happy that it worked. I feel there is no better deal for the money as this has proven to be very hard to defeat. I'm glad I bought it even though now I have to buy another one. Money well spent." — Al
Trending review: "After reading some of the reviews on here , I think some people need a reality check with what they are buying … I purchased this safe for $132.00… It’s a secure safe/cabinet for the price and offers some piece of mind .. A top of the line safe is going to cost $1,000 and up.. This safe/cabinet is nowhere near top of the line … But for the price , it’s decent enough to hold the line as a deterrent and offers a decent amount of security for the price … Now, if you are looking to secure something of really high value , than I suggest you spend the money and look for $1,000 and upwards safe." — Joe
Reassuring review: "I purchased a safe maybe 10 years ago mainly for fire protection of family documents and safe keeping of valuables. It is smaller and on wheels, but is nice and thick. I never doubted it would protect my documents. The problem is the wheels. It's not very good at actually being a safe when someone can just break in and wheel it away.
I decided to look for a safe I could mount to the wall or floor, and that was still fire proof. I decided on this one because it was in my budget. This safe is mountable to either wall or floor, however I'm doubting its ability to protect my documents during a fire. It is basically a sheet metal box with a safe door. I like the size, and the lock panel is a nice feature that was easy to set up. Mounting was fairly easy as well. However, I kept thinking my valuables are just not really safe inside. To ease my mind I ended up purchasing a fire protection pouch to put my most valuable papers inside while stored in the safe.
Overall, this safe is pretty much a lock box you can mount to help prevent someone from just walking off with it. I'm really doubting the fire proof claims, and a well equipped thief could most likely cut through the walls of the safe easily with the right tools. I don't store anything extremely valuable in there, so I will probably keep it for now. I will most likely up my budget and replace it with something more sturdy at some point in the future." — Scott S.
5. Tenamic - Biometric Fingerprint Safe Box

Highlight: Tenamic safe box is made of the better solid steel. Special ripple coating has been used to the surface for better protection against wear and corrosion. This security safe has a pry-resistant steel door and concealed pry-resistant hinges to offer you complete peace of mind. It ensures that your cabinet safe is stronger and more durable. If necessary, you can fix it on the wall or the ground.
Helpful review: "This safe is great, I like having multiple options for opening the safe securely. The first option is the key (you get two of them and this works even with dead batteries or no batteries). The other options are a keypad and a fingerprint scanner. There are two buttons inside the safe that allows you to reset the code and re-register your fingerprint. You can have multiple fingers saved. These two options require four AA batteries that are included in the box, I have been using the safe for about 2 months and the batteries haven't died yet. I open the safe at least once everyday.
The safe feels very sturdy to me, If you are planning on really relying on it, I would recommend that you mount it to a wall or a really heavy piece of furniture or something. There are two holes in the back of the safe and two bolts are included for mounting. The body and door of the safe are made from strong metal, It would be hard to cut into this safe. The door is secured (when locked) by two really large metal bars that you turn a knob to lock them in place. If not bolted to a wall, someone could pick this safe up and carry it with them (it's not too heavy to carry).
The fingerprint scanner is very reliable and it works for me every time I use it. If you find that you are having trouble getting it to reliably identify you, I would recommend you add your fingerprint again. Or, you can even register your same finger multiple times (to increase the chance of a successful scan). The keypad is not my favorite way to open the safe, I have trouble getting it to correctly recognize my key entries. The touch screen is just not sensitive enough in my experience. There is a way, supposedly, to setup the safe to require BOTH a keycode and a fingerprint, but I couldn't ever figure out how to set this up correctly.
I have really enjoyed having this safe in my home and it makes me feel better knowing that valuable items are safely stored inside. I think this is a good buy for the price and the quality of the product seems to match its price. I would just remind you to keep the keys somewhere safe (for when the batteries die). I will update my review to mention how long it took to finally kill the four AA batteries." — BMO
Trending review: "I have been trying since april to get this safe setup, and have been unsuccessful. No green light, no red light, no audio prompt for saving fingerprints. Every step in the manual references a red button/light which literally doesn't exist. It also references a green light, which again doesn't exist. The only lights I have are the blue one around the fingerprint spot, and the blue numbers. That's it. The only audio I have is when it tells me to open the safe. I can't seem to find a way to call this company, the only option is email. I purchased my husband a different safe on the same day; he had his setup in moments.
Update: Safe is setup, and I'm very happy with it. The issue ended up being documentation error mixed with user error. The setup was super fast after support reached out to me. Changed my rating from 1 star to 5." — girlofsnow
Reassuring review: "The Tenamic safe with fingerprint recognition is the perfect solution for storing valuables, money, and documents, for anything else you want to keep safe from theft. We recently had a robbery within our home by a housekeeper whom we had hired to help Mom. The hoodlum took off with over $10,000 worth of Mom and Dad's jewelry. Luckily I can figure things out better than Colombo and had the police at her door by the next day, and we got most of it back but that incident taught me that we need to keep our most prized possessions in an unattainable location for people who work in the house or others. The police always say to make it as difficult as possible for a thief to get to your items. This safe definitely does that because the only possible way to open it is with your own fingerprint, password, or emergency keys that you can keep in another location. It is easy to operate with quick entry when you need your items. Burglar alarm goes off if too many attempts are made that are incorrect. Also the vault is light enough to carry around but heavy enough to discourage people from trying to make off with it. Five stars!" — Small Town Global Technologies

Helpful review: "I recently purchased this depository safe, and to say I am overjoyed would be an understatement. This product is nothing short of exceptional and a true game changer in terms of safety and convenience.
Firstly, the design deserves applause. The safe is sleek and modern, fitting seamlessly into any room without disturbing the decor. It's also compact enough to not take much space while still offering a substantial storage capacity.
The functionality of this depository safe is phenomenal. From important documents to valuable items, it secures all my possessions in a highly organized manner. The drop slot is perfect for quick and easy deposits without having to unlock the whole safe. It's an ideal feature for my business, allowing my employees to deposit daily cash earnings securely.
Security wise, the safe is top-notch. The solid steel construction is robust and sturdy, giving me the utmost peace of mind. The lock system is advanced, yet user-friendly. The digital keypad is responsive and very easy to program. And the option to use a traditional key as a backup is a thoughtful addition.
One feature that particularly stands out is the anti-fishing mechanism. This prevents any attempt of retrieving the deposited items through the drop slot, adding an extra layer of security that I greatly appreciate.
The safe arrived well-packaged with clear and comprehensive installation instructions. The customer service was also praiseworthy. They were quick to answer any queries, making the entire process smooth and easy.
Overall, this depository safe has exceeded my expectations in every way. It's a fantastic investment for both personal and business use. Highly recommended to anyone in need of a reliable, high-quality safe. This is certainly a product that screams value for money!
In conclusion, I am thoroughly satisfied with my depository safe. It's sturdy, easy to use, and most importantly, it gives me peace of mind knowing my valuables are secure. A five-star product without a doubt" — Melissa Fowler
Trending review: "This is a decent little safe for when you want to secure small items such as passports, credit cards, etc..
The setup of this is fairly easy as you are provided a set of keys that you can use after taking off the slide-away panel and after inserting the key and using it you can then open the door.
Once the door is open you will find a spare battery pack that can be used externally in case the batteries die and you don't have the keys.
Programming this is easy as well as there is a small button on the back of the inside of the door you press this and set your code and the safe beeps to let you know it has been set. You can also reset the factory code which is a very simple code indeed.
This takes 4 AA batteries to operate and you just put them in the top of the door in the battery compartment.
As long as you have the keys though you will be able to get into this safe at any time.
There is a shelf inside the safe as well where you can place documents and the bottom of the safe can store cash, jewelry, USB drives, etc..
This is a very sturdy safe and can even be mounted to the floor or inside a wall if desired although that would be some work.
It is not light but not overall heavy I currently have it on a shelf in my closet.
If you are looking for a decent easy-to-use safe this one will work great." — Dale Hufford
Reassuring review: "This safe gives that security that is needed in storing one's personal valuables and asset safely in home, office and/or hotel.
Great size, quality and has a nice weight on it.
I got this for all those reasons. Steel security safe with digital keypad and 2 keys included. Two options in opening the safe which I like. Solid locking bolts. Easily can be wall mounted.
I really love the dual warning alarm feature along with the LED light!!! That alarm feature just adds to the protection.
Also, the removeable shelf adds to more room if needed for large document envelopes.
