1. BBRKIN - Overall Best Long Gun Safe
Top-Rated: 1,928 ratings
Credit: Amazon.com
Highlight: The safe is Larger and deeper safe stores up to 5-6 rifles /shotguns up to 50inches with/without scopes, Deeper than safes only 11inch and can't fit scoped rifles. It also has a separate lock box inside to store small guns and other valuables in your home or office. Exterior Dimensions: 13.8”(w) x 12”(d) x 57”(h).
Helpful review: "After a lot of research to find a good value gun cabinet, I settled on the Moutec Large Rifle (w/ touchpad) Gun Cabinet. I found numerous positive and informative reviews on Amazon as well as reputable sites. I have had the cabinet for about a month and recently mounted it to a wall in my home. I am very pleased with my choice.
I had 2 key elements in my search: price and interior dimensions. Many cabinets I researched had one or the other but not both. Most fell short on the interior dimensions. When wanting to store rifles with optics or other accessories, interior space is a must. The interior dimensions listed in the product details are accurate and one of the main reasons I selected this cabinet. I would estimate it would hold 5 – 6 long rifles as described.
Quality of materials is another key element, but I am not knowledgeable enough to understand the gauge of the metal (yes, I know you can research to understand but I wasn’t getting it). The reviews here and elsewhere were consistent on two things: metal for the sides and back, as well as the cabinet door thickness. Here, the reviews were again accurate. The sides and back don’t feel much thicker/stronger than a school locker, but to get better you’re going to pay more. As such I did not feel misled. The cabinet door, however, is thick, solid, and hefty, with 3 security bars/deadbolts down the side and 1 each on top and bottom. The door isn’t being opened unless someone has time, patience, and tools. Same can be said for the sides and back. You’re going to have to expend effort to punch a hole into the cabinet to get what’s inside.
The separate lockbox is also solid. For me, it doesn’t add much value. I would have preferred open and adjustable shelves. There is 1 cabinet on Amazon that has these and was my close second choice, but the cabinet wasn’t reviewed as positively or at all on other sites.
The foam adjustable support frame keeps rifle barrels snugly in place. Once you put your rifle away, it’s not going to shift in the cabinet, or rotate in place.
The keypad works great. I’ve had bad experiences with biometric locks so I did not consider the Moutec model that had one. The keypad isn’t touchy or sensitive. You actually need to press the keys to enter your code, which I like. Once the code is entered, the cabinet unlocks quickly. If you’re worried about getting into the cabinet in a hurry, don’t be. The batteries that shipped with the cabinet must have been old because when I installed them, all I got was a long loud whiney noise. After trying unsuccessfully to program the code, I replaced the batteries, watched the video on the Moutec website, and set the code with ease.
I built a shelf for the bottom for storage, added a magnetic spice shelf to place under the lockbox but over the barrel for storage, and will be adding magnetic LEDs later this week. I found these ideas in reviews of the cabinet on Amazon and appreciate everyone who shared them.
The cabinet arrived via FedEx when promised. There was no damage from shipping, as the Moutec team did a great job packing it securely and with good materials protecting the cabinet.
After I registered the cabinet on the website, I was emailed by Alan from Moutec. He queried about my experience with the cabinet, thanked me for my purchase and registration, and offered to send me the door panel organizer that Moutec sells. I love it and so appreciate receiving it.
I am very pleased with the cabinet. I would buy another once my collection grows, unless I upgrade to something larger and fire rated (which would cost more). While I understand some of the negative reviews I’ve seen on Amazon about this cabinet, I do not agree with them. My experience with it, as well as customer service, thus far has been nothing but positive. Other reviews I found in my research were accurate and lead to my decision to purchase this cabinet. It has met my expectations and I am glad I went with this cabinet over others." — Satisfied Customer
Trending review: "Let's get the negatives out of the way: not fire rated, weighs less than 100lbs so anyone can tote it off if they really wanted to, and the digital locking mechanism feels a little flimsy.
With all that being said, this is the best bang (pun intended) for your buck if you are price conscious and just need a place to store your sidearms and long guns.
- Security
The case comes with two sets of keys: one as an emergency for the exterior door in case you forget your passcode and the other for a secondary safe to store documents like passports, insurance documents, etc. The security panel is OK and nothing to rave about since it looks a little plastic-y but it gets the job done. Remember...their target market is someone who wants to store guns in their home at a cost effective rate.
- Gun Storage
I was able to fit a total of 3x long guns: remington 700 with vortex optic and magpul bipod, remington 870 magpul tactical express with flashlight mounted on it, and tippman m4-22lr with red dot and magpul bipod. My pistols are in smaller cases around the house so I can't speak for the usability of the secondary smaller safe. Also, it comes with some mounting bolts but I didn't want to drill them into my floor/wall so I weighed the whole thing down with all my different ammo types. If I wanted to I could probably fit another rifle in there but the 5th one would be a little tight.
- Customer Service
Quick, fast, and efficient. My POC was a dude named Alan and he was kind enough to send me a safe organizer as well. This thing can be secured along the inside of your safe door to hold 3x hand guns, some ammo and a decent pocket holder for sensitive documents.
- Overall
If you are hesitating about this because it looks cheap or can be carried away by one or two guys then you are completely missing the point. It is called a home security system for a reason: you need to think about external lights in the house, cameras, alarm systems, etc. This gun case is just one slice of the entire pie that should be taken into consideration.
See the forest for the trees - you won't regret buying this." — Chris
Reassuring review: "Was shopping for a gun safe (residential security container). Wasn’t quite ready to jump to $900 Steelwater or better (more expensive) container (400lbs). Looked at a BJ’s $500 option as well – but they wanted $200 shipping! Which put us in range of their $600 locally in stock safe (nice safe)..that weighs 500lbs! We live in a somewhat rural area with not many options for local purchase. Additionally, we wanted a safe/container for the upstairs bedroom – so the thought of hauling 500lbs up a non-straight set of stairs introduced other concerns for us. So we decided to give the Moutec a try. First of all – free shipping via Amazon – can’t complain about that! Second, it is in the 80-90lb class – so easy for me to bring upstairs by myself with a std hand truck that I have! I found the item very well packaged with only one small ½ inch blemish (paint scrape) on a back edge corner – not noticeable and completely acceptable. No assembly required. Had convenient mounting holes for the floor or back (wall) – I used the back for wall mount. Due to my baseboard that I didn’t want to move or cut, I used a wood spacer between the back of the safe and the wall with long toggle bolt fasteners. The toggle bolts needed a 1/2inch hole and the pre stamped holes in the safe were just shy of that (fine for the very robust included fasteners). I can tell you that drilling the holes bigger was not easy – you’re not going to drill through this container with your standard household drill and bits. But I did manage to make them just a hair larger for my toggle bolts with the right equipment. I added an inexpensive motion sensitive light to the inside and I had a couple small adhesive bumpers in my toolbox that I added to the door frame to ‘soften’ the door closing ‘clang’. The adjustable gun rack was actually pretty useful for my rifles. I certainly appreciate the silent mode of the key pad. The key pad works like a champ, but honestly it doesn’t instill a ton of confidence (fairly flexible). Some very light backlighting would have been a nice touch for the key pad. Maybe I should have gone with the biometric access version. The handle and lock knob feel sturdy. The internal lock box is a nice touch. Overall, for the price point, I’m extremely happy with this purchase and would recommend it." — jooset
2. KAER - Gun Safes for Home Rifle and Pistols
Top-Rated: 513 ratings
Credit: Amazon.com
Highlight: The rifle safe can hold 3-5 rifles up to 54" with/without scope. You can adjust the storage space by adjusting the shelves. External dimensions:11.8"W x 11"D x 54.13"H. Internal dimensions:11.6"W x 8.66"D x 54.13"H. The inner depth with the door closed is 8.46".
Helpful review: "First things first, this is somewhere between a gun locker and a safe. For me that is perfectly fine, I'm not expecting a freaking Batman villain to break into my home looking for civilian guns and ammo. If you need to keep steroid abusing meth heads out of your stuff, spring for a heavier duty safe.
For the rest of us, this will keep kids and unwanted guests out. Strong enough that you wouldnt try to break into it on the spot and heavy enough that it would be to annoying to pick up and steal the whole thing.
Keys, locking mechanism, door, hinges and combo pad are all really smooth functioning. Dimensions are perfect for what I needed. Will hold 5 long guns (4 will be a more comfortable fit) 2 handguns, plus ammo and mags for them all.
For those confused by the instructions, the settings button is on the inside edge of the door near where the hinges are." — Todd Family
Trending review: "I just got this safe today and spent about an hour installing it in its final resting place. I really hope it lasts and doesn't give me issues down the road. It sure seems well built for what it is. At it's price point you're not gonna beat it. The size and accommodations are absolutely perfect for what I was looking for. The fit and finish is spot on awesome and the safe was packed and shipped with the most care and consideration to protect the safe inside the shipping box. Very impressive packaging to say the least. The locking mechanism works well and consistent. Easy interface to operate. Fits 4 long guns well. As a side note, you will have to secure this safe to a wall or floor or both. Stability will be an issue otherwise." — R Vez
Reassuring review: "Fast delivery and packed for shipping very well. Safe weights appropriately 70 pounds so I was able to set up in my living room then move to bedroom by myself.
This product was bought for locking up personal items (handguns and rifles) in a small one bedroom apartment. As compared to the other safes I had in the past and currently have now, this is my favorite and I am very happy with this purchase: it is of a perfect size for my apartment but also compact enough to stay hidden from plain sight. As you can see from one of the pictures posted, it nicely can hid behind a mirror stand.
The quality is great…perfect combination of thickness of metal vs overall weight.
The initial set up was easy even though the emergency key hole was very flush and took me a focused look to find it (which is good for anyone else trying to find and pick the lock)
Carpeted included inside and is standard in any quality safe.
The keys are quality too…some other safes come with flimsy keys that I worry could break or snap easily. This one is durable, would last the year of times.
Overall, very happy with this safe - I am considering to buy a second one too." — Xerxes
3. SnapSafe - Wall Long Gun Safe
Top-Rated: 115 ratings
Credit: Amazon.com
Highlight: Sturdy gun cabinet made of 16-gauge steel body and a .15” steel door. Hide this in wall gun safe behind a picture or in a closet to protect your valuables from theft or break-ins. Includes 3 removable shelves for extra storage
Helpful review: "This is a heavy 45lb safe. Use at least two people to lift during install if possible. The safe has predrilled mounting holes and a lot of large lag bolts to securely mount it to wall studs from the inside. Predrill the holes for the lag bolts… but poke a hole in the felt before drilling 🧐 or you will end up ripping the felt off the side wall and wrapping it around your drill bit, leaving you with a naked wall or stretched felt in need of glueing. NOTE TO MFR: Consider poking holes in the felt covering the mounting holes as part of the assembly process.
As for my title, “ Long Gun IS NOT PLURAL 🧐”… I’ve included a photo of the keypad / locking mechanism offset to the left. The locking mechanism is naturally going to be bulky and consume internal space. I’ve included a picture of the shelves removed and my long gun positioned in the right side of the safe. In my case, there is not enough room to store another long gun in this safe because of the space requirements of the locking mechanism thus the title I chose for my review. The safe comes with the option of storing a long gun or using removable shelves but not both. So I purchased “Ammo Magazine Magnets” from Amazon to secure my pistol and spare magazines. In my photo you can see there is plenty of room to stack boxes of ammo as well. In all fairness, a more accurate statement would be “In my case, there is not enough room to store another long gun in this safe [without breaking it down]…”. I can get another AR platform long gun in this safe if I separate the upper receiver from the lower receiver. But, if your long gun does not break apart you can expect to find it difficult to secure more than one in this safe. I like this safe. It serves my purpose well. With full disclosures I would recommend this safe." — PG
Trending review: "Ours arrived with evidence of the package being dropped on the top left corner but it didn’t bend the flange so we went ahead and installed the safe. It was fairly easy. I like the little compartment at the bottom. Probably good for one long gun but be aware of dimensions if that’s the main purpose of your purchase. Great for handguns but you’ll need magnetic gun holders. You can keep important documents, jewelry, cash, etc., safe. We’re very happy with ours." — Chamelisa
Reassuring review: "Since no installation instructions were included with the unit, I had to guess - but using a tape measure I was able to cut the size hole I needed, and the drilling and installing the lags was easy. Here is a tip - punch holes in the felt in the side for the lag bolts prior to drilling so the felt does not get twisted in your drill.
I installed myself without help - but another set of hands may have been useful until I get the first 2 lags in.
The unit is not as tall as I had envisioned, so I was only able to use 1 shelf on top with my shotgun (with the stock collapsed). I was not able to put in my other long gun as there would not have been room (by using the shelf. Plenty of room if I was not using a shelf).
I hot glued velcro straps to the felt on the back to create holding loops for the handguns. This seems to work well.
I also do not like that the beeping cannot be silenced. When I get some time, I will try to see if I can deactivate it.
Otherwise, this seems to be a well-constructed unit. I may opt to get another." — Timothy A. Stevic
4. TOLEBLID - 7-8 Fireproof Biometric Gun Safes
Top-Rated: 283 ratings
Credit: Amazon.com
Highlight: Our biometric gun safe uses the better semiconductor fingerprint reader, which is more accurate and faster than ordinary optical fingerprint reader! The stronger solid steel structure makes it impossible for others to use violence to open it from the outside. Only use the fingerprint or password you set or emergency key, the door will open.
Helpful review: "I read a lot of reviews on this and decided to pull the trigger. I am no stranger to gun safes/lockers. I was looking for something that would be strong/solid, but easy to move because I will be moving in the future to another state. I would rate this 3.5 stars but am giving it a generous 4 star review.
The box arrived and my first impression was that it was pretty small. I had no problem getting it into the house, down the basement stairs and un-boxed by myself. It is fairly heavy but I can definitely move it.
It comes with large bolts to use to attach to wall if desired, which is exactly what I will be doing. The locker is pretty small, states that it holds up 11 rifles? That depends on how they are stored. I have always stored mine barrel down which has always allowed me to get a lot more rifles in a safe than if they were stored stock down....which you're not suppose to do anyway. I am waiting to retrieve my many rifles from another location before I test this out but am confident that I will be able to get 12 + in there, maybe up to 15 with the barrels down. update- barrel down and I can get 12-14 in but that is really squeezing them in....if you do stock down, depending on what you have, 8 or 9
There are pockets on the inside door for storage which is nice and will be used. There is a single shelf that I may need to remove because some of my rifles are on the long side, no big deal. And, there is a separate locking box at the top which takes a different key than the safe door ( 2 keys included for each lock, total 4 keys). That inner lock box is a bit of a joke with the lock use on it, it is extremely flimsy and any flat head screwdriver can EASILY pry it open!! I already did....too easy.
The lock is definitely strong (for a locker) and a good deterrent! I have been in law Enforcement for well over 30 years and am content with it. Of course, this can be defeated but will take a little work and make a lot of noise. I made a very secure "gun room" with a metal, reinforced door and frame and reinforced walls. Also have video camera system with motion text alerts so all of these combined will certainly protect my investments quite sufficiently.
Anything can be defeated, the key is to make it as difficult as possible for the bad guy because more times than not, they will give up and move on to someone else when they get panicked/ frustrated trying to get into something.....especially when they have to make a ton of noise and or spend more time and effort getting in.
Special note, this DOES take batteries ( AA ) but it is listed " Batteries Required? No" There is a battery compartment that slides out from top part of inside door which supplies power to the electronic fingerprint lock and digital combination. I don't know why the seller lists this as batteries not required, unless you plan on only using the key which is silly.
Now that I have stored everything and lockers are bolted into place, I paid a little more attention to the sturdiness. When I pull on the front handle, I can see the door bend a bit....it is thinner metal. It stays put bolted into the 2X6's I have behind them so they won't be moved. I know that with the tools I own, I could fairly easily get into these...thin metal is easy to cut. Also, when I set the combination for them, it does not allow you to also use the fingerprint feature, it appears that you have to use one or the other but can't use both.....I tried....not a deal breaker.
If you buy this locker and just place it in your home/garage without doing anything else, it's fairly decent but the entire thing can easily be moved with 2 people or 1 person and a dolly, or just 1 stronger person so, be very smart with where and how you place it. If you don't have a very secure room like I do, then invest more money into a much more worthy gun safe! This alone is vulnerable to being defeated with the right tools. I know I could get in with the tools I currently possess which are fairly common tools. Don't let your guns get into the wrong hands!! This is NOT A GUN SAFE!! It is a gun locker marketed to be more like a safe, but it is not!! Metal is too thin and this is too light weight. Make certain with what you want to use for your weapons and or ammunition." — Big T.
Trending review: "To be clear: This is not a gun "safe", it it more of a "locker". This is basically a sheet-metal box with a door and locking mechanism. With that expectation, this is a great value for the price and does exactly what I needed it to do. I did not want a thousand-pound safe, and I knew that I wasn't going to get fire protection, I just wanted a box with a decent locking mechanism that I could bolt to a wall, and this works perfectly.
The safe arrived in good condition and was adequately packaged, although given its weight it would not surprise me to see some dings from shipping and delivery people being careless. The entire thing was surrounded by an inch or more of foam and cardboard to protect from minor damage.
My biggest question prior to buying this was the locking mechanism - was it really a decent lock and did it respond quickly and correctly to fingerprints. It appears that it does well on both counts -- fingerprints are easy to program and are quickly recognized, as is the code input. There is a metal key for backup, and the unit comes with an external battery box that can be plugged in to power the lock in case the internal battery dies. Overall I think the locking mechanism is adequate, but I have a feeling that someone with a long pipe could probably overcome the lock with brute force, but I'm not going to try it myself. Again, good enough for my needs.
The interior is lined (cheaply) with felt, good enough for my needs but not the highest standard you would find in a $2000 safe. There is a wood (MDF) shelf also covered with felt, and is adjustable to a few different heights. The internal lock box is not movable - it is welded to the walls.
Overall this is a great value for the cost. No it's not fire proof, it is not insulated at all and there is no seal on the door. It's a metal box with a lock, easily bolted to the wall or floor, and has enough internal padding and organization features to keep things from rubbing against each other. If you want a 2000-pound safe then go pay $2500 for something with a 2-hour fire rating. If you want a decent locker for $450, this fits the bill perfectly." — Jeff
Reassuring review: "The package looked really bad when it arrived, but I was pleased to see that it was mostly the outside box that was torn up. The paint and lock were 100% scratch free, though it appears that a small crack in the paint may have resulted from the installation of the internal lock box, or pressure exactly on that spot.
Because it is completely lined, interior dimensions are smaller than the total dimensions, but a 50" air rifle with scope just barely fit in under the locking top cabinet. Because of that rifle I can't use the removable shelf. The flanges of metal where the shelf can be used are attached to the wall of the safe but they could be cut off or bent down if one feared scratches.
I agree that the instructions that came with the safe for setting up fingerprints was too brief, and a little confusing, but I got it to work within a few minutes.
The four pre-cut holes for wall attachment are set a few inches away from the edge of the safe, making it unlikely the safe will be able to bolt to two wall studs a standard 18" apart. (in US)
I read all the reviews of this brand of safe/cabinet and was concerned about the thickness of the metal used. I was very pleased at the strength and weight of the metal. In terms of just a person with no tools, this safe/cabinet would just laugh at a person trying to kick the door in. The way the door is recessed, it is pry-resistant, so even with a five-foot pry bar, the trick would be to get the end wedged somewhere in it that leverage could be applied. There are no visible seams showing where the walls may be vulnerable.
For what I paid it exceeded my expectations.
The reason I keep calling it a safe/cabinet is that I feel a safe implies at least quarter-inch metal walls perfect fit door, and perhaps some fire insulation. But to call this just a cabinet misses the mark, as it is very substantial.
Once it is mounted to the wall (if this fell on a child climbing on it you would never forgive yourself) you will want to add some bumpers to reduce the clanky sounds opening and closing the door makes, or perhaps some seals to reduce air transfer in and out. If you seal it you will want to get some dehumidifier packs to keep interior moisture away from your guns." — Bryan Pearson
5. Ncnlhk - 7-8 Rifle Gun Safe Gun Cabinet
Top-Rated: 158 ratings
Credit: Amazon.com
Highlight: Large gun safe is made of solid cold rolled steel with good anti-pick, anti-rust and high temperature resistance. Gun cabinet weighs up to 71.31 pounds and comes with four 22 mm solid bolts and 30 mm thickened front door. The rifle safe is solid enough to keep firearms from being accessed by children and to deter burglars. 3 consecutive wrong entries will cause the keyboard to be locked for 20 seconds. You can set silent mode or turn on the sound if you want.
Helpful review: "I was a bit skeptical of this product, because of it's price, and it's weight, but it really is a great little safe. It seems secure, and functional, and reliable, and is the perfect size to suit my needs.
If you aren't going to bolt this down to the foundation of the floor, I really do recommend weighing it down by putting some weights, or a lot of ammunition on the bottom to weigh it down. Other than that, this thing is great.
It took me about an hour to assemble, but I was taking my time, and was goofing off and watching t.v., and multitasking within that hour, haha.
Over all, I'm very happy with this safe." — Big T.
Trending review: "Assembly instructions need a little work, it missed going over some things, but overall not hard to throw together. Pretty decent little safe, has a light that illuminates the inside when you open it and has shelves for magazine storage on the inside door. Safe comes with expanding concrete bolts/screws for if you want to secure it to a concrete floor. Overall not a bad safe for someone who needs something that won’t break the bank or need something pretty basic. Just don’t expect it to be super thick or Fort Knox. In the picture I had to add a felt pad to the keypad to keep it from denting the wall." — Jeff
Reassuring review: "I liked that the safe was easy to install. It is very sturdy. I also like that it can easily hold 3 long guns, which is what I was looking for in a safe." — Molly Champion

Trending review: "Glad I went with this one over less expensive options. Cabinet seems very well constructed. Pin pad and finger print scanner work very well as they should. I got my long trap shooting shotgun (just barely fit), horn defense tactical shotgun and short carbine rifle in this safe. I have to store carbine on its side taking up extra space as support that grabs onto barrel is positioned too high. I do not think a rifle with a large scopenmounted would fit into this safe, u less stored on its side as I did with my carbine due to the depth of the cabinet . Key to top safe works well and I'm confident this will keep my children safe. Installed it in my closet with my own custom mounting system and it will be quite difficult for an intruder to break into and/or remove the whole safe." — John M Kennedy
